The current president of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji, has convened the first ordinary session of this chamber of Parliament for March 3.

This session will take place while the renewal process of the chamber is underway. Indeed, the President of the Republic has convened the electorate for the election of senators. The poll is scheduled for Sunday, March 12.

Elecam, the body in charge of the polls, has indeed unveiled a few days ago the list of candidates authorized to solicit the votes of municipal and regional councillors who make up the electoral body. While waiting for the Constitutional Council, which has been seized by candidates, to clear the pre-electoral dispute, 10 political parties have been authorised to compete. Among them CPDM , in power, is the favourite. The presidential party is the only one to have lists in all regions.

The publication of these lists by Elecam has already given an idea of those senators who will not return. The party hierarchy has discarded many outgoing senators in favour of new profiles. Thus, with the exception of the list for the South West, all CPDM lists in the other 9 regions have been rejected. In fact, this March session is the last for many senators. According to the provisions of the Electoral Code, the Constitutional Council has 15 days from the end of the election to proclaim the results. The first ordinary session of the new Senate term is expected to take place in early April.
