The Algerian airline landed at Douala International Airport for the first time on 12 October.

Air Algérie finally lands in Cameroon. This is the result of a long period of negotiations between the two countries which culminated in the signing of an agreement. The agreement was signed in Yaounde on February 24   by the two countries’ plenipotentiaries, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLE BIBEHE, representing the Republic of Cameroon, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, H.E. BEDJAOUI MERZAK, representing the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

This agreement will promote the development and rapprochement of the peoples of both countries, encourage tourism and increase trade, in addition to air services. In addition to this aviation agreement, which was ratified by the President of the Republic on August  1, 2023, the Heads of State of the two countries intend to strengthen their cooperation in the fields of transport and meteorology.

“The main target of this new Alger-Douala transport network is the African population passing through Algiers on their way to other destinations such as North Africa, Europe, the Middle East, North America and Asia,” explains Air Algérie.

Another agreement between Cameroon and Algeria was signed on 15 May 2023. This is a framework agreement for cooperation between Cameroon and Algeria in the areas of transport and meteorology. This framework agreement, which further consolidates relations between the two countries, covers a number of areas. These include the establishment of cooperation between the two countries’ research and training institutes in the fields of transport and meteorology, the definition of joint research programmes and the exchange of experience and expertise between regulatory and supervisory bodies in the aviation and maritime sectors.
