Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute and other well-known figures from the national political and business scene have expressed their outrage following this tragedy.
Twenty-five people were brutally massacred in an attack by separatists in the South West region on the night of Sunday 5 November 2023 to Monday 6 November 2023. They were caught sleeping at around 3.30am and shot with guns, home-made bombs and machetes. Two girls were raped before being shot.
The attack, which took place in the village dubbed Egbekaw near the town of Mamfe in Manyu division, has sparked a wave of outrage. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute said he was “shocked and saddened”. The head of government “strongly condemns these acts of terrorism against innocent citizens, whose sole aim is to undermine the peace and security of our communities (…)”.
“More horror!” cried Cabral Libii. “Dozens of Cameroonians have been decimated in Mamfe. Children, women and men. What tragedy have we not yet seen in the North West and South West regions of our country? What a macabre fresco! I shudder with rage at this barbarity! I condemn it! I condemn it! There is no justification on earth for such a slaughter of innocent people.”
For Rebecca Enonchong, “the terrorist act in Mamfe, which killed dozens of innocent civilians in the most despicable and barbaric manner, must be investigated and those responsible brought to justice”.
