That is one of the resolutions adopted by the party’s National Executive Committee during their last encounter held in Yaounde on February 17.
The Social Democratic Front (SDF) just issued a series of demands and condemnations. Its National Executive Committee (NEC) ” notes with regret that the Supreme Council of Justice (SCJ) has not been convened since August 2020, as required by the law. The SDF therefore appeals to the President of the said institution to convene the SCJ without further delay for the proper underway of the judicial system in our country,” says the document signed by the party’s National President, Joshua Osih.
The party’s appeal is addressed to the President of the Republic, who is also the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Justice. After the 2017 session, the five-member institution had its last meeting on August 10, 2020 at the Unity Palace.
The SCJ examines proposals for the integration of magistrates into the judiciary, the assignment or appointment of magistrates to judicial posts and the transfer of magistrates from the bench to the prosecution service or of prosecutors to the bench. It also acts as a disciplinary body for judges.
In addition to this appeal, the National Executive Committee condemns the government’s decision to increase the price of fuel “to finance the government’s lavish and exorbitant lifestyle”. It also strongly condemns the bomb attack in Nkambe of last February 11 and calls on the government to take measures to end the “senseless” crisis in the North West and South West regions, among others.
