Minister Ketcha Courtes will release a huge sum of money to improve road infrastructure, among other projects.

Last August 13, 2024, a meeting to launch the work marked the beginning of a new era for the city of Bamenda, headquarter of the North West region. Chaired by the Governor and attended by various technical stakeholders, the meeting formalised the start of the major works planned under the C2D Urban “Regional Capitals” programme.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Célestine Ketcha Courtès, had previously announced during a visit in April 2024, accompanied by the French Ambassador to Cameroon, Thierry Marchand, and the Director of the French Development Agency (AFD), that more than 30 billion CFA francs would be invested in Bamenda. Nearly 21 billion of this sum will be spent on improving road infrastructure to optimise urban mobility in this beautiful city.
The work will involve not only Bamenda but also other towns such as Bafoussam, Bertoua and Garoua. For Bamenda, the projects include
The construction of more than 18km of roads. These include the Bamenda City Council Road and several other strategic routes. The construction of three new markets: Ntatru Market, Bamenda 1 New Market and Mile 4 Market, to boost local trade. Urban services will also be completed: work on the municipal abattoir, municipal library and pedestrian crossings has been completed.
The development of green areas and the extension of the water network.
The people of Bamenda can therefore look forward to significant changes in their urban environment in the near future.
