This was announced by the Minister of Trade in a press release on September 18.

In a press release, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana informed stakeholders in the national cocoa sector that as part of the government’s efforts to increase the value of Cameroonian cocoa beans on the international market, a major player in the world chocolate industry has just signed a major purchase contract with a local cooperative specialising in the production of high quality cocoa at an edge-of-field price of FCFA 5,200/kg.

“The government is delighted with this operation, which comes just after the start of the 2024/2025 cocoa season, and which reinforces the regained prestige of Cameroon Origin on the international scene and the renewed confidence of the industry in the quality of our cocoa,” stresses the Minister of Trade.

The 2024/2025 cocoa season in Cameroon was officially launched on August 8, 2024, with the National Cocoa and Coffee Board (ONCC) reporting a significant increase in production and revenue compared to the previous season.

The Minister invited all producers and their organisations to take inspiration from this new partnership model to ensure that their remuneration is commensurate with their aspirations, in return for marketing a product that aims for excellence in terms of quality and tax exemption.
