Seven times AFCON winners, Egypt, five time champions, Cameroon and the reigning champions, Cote D’Ivoire are amongst the eight quarterfinalist at the ongoing African Cup of Nations 2025 in Morocco.
They, alongside the super eagles of Nigeria, the Teranga lions of Senegal, host country Morocco, Algeria and Mali emerged winners after defeating their various opponents in the last group stage matches.
The qualification games for the quarter-finals were played for four (4) days which ended yesterday January 6, 2026 with the trophy holders Côte d’Ivoire pressing their griefs on their opponent, Burkina Faso in a 3-0 win which qualified them for the next round. Amad Diallo, who has so far scored three goals for the Elephants at the AFCON, emerged, for the third time, Man of the Match at the end of the game.

On the other hand, the Fennecs of Algeria took on a miraculous lead ahead of the Democratic Republic of Congo at the 120 minutes of play, when Mohammad Amoura netted the lone goal for the team and of the match.
The quarter-finals are to be played for two days. The day 1 matches scheduled for this Friday will begin at the Grand Stade de Tanger, Tanger that will host the encounter between Mali and Senegal at 5pm while Cameroon will take on host Country Morocco at 8pm local time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat.

The day two matches to be played on Saturday January 10, will feature Nigeria against Algeria at the Marrakech Stadium, while Egypt takes on reigning champions Côte d’Ivoire at the Adrar Stadium. Winners of the four games will thus have to proceed to the semi-finals which will subsequently lead to the finalists battling for the title of Winners of the AFCON 2025 in the finals slated for January 18, 2026.
