The President of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications, His Lordship Michael Bibi, officially inaugurated the 9th National Council of Catholic Communicators on Tuesday February 24 at the headquarters of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon (NECC).
In an atmosphere of fraternal joy, Bishop Bibi welcomed delegates who traveled from all over the national triangle. He expressed profound gratitude for their commitment to this week of collective reflection, prayer, and professional training.
Addressing the rapid evolution of technology, Bishop Bibi reminded participants that even in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Christian communication remains fundamentally rooted in the human person and the transformative power of genuine encounters.
The Council’s primary focus is to equip communicators with the necessary skills to navigate a world that demands high investment in the credibility of the Church’s message. The Bishop emphasized that communication must remain clear, respect human dignity, and serve as a beacon of hope.
While acknowledging the benefits of the digital era, His Lordship cautioned against turning a blind eye to its complexities. He underscored that Catholic communication in the digital world must present the whole truth without compromise or falsification, avoid the “demystification” or dilution of sacred information, and faithfully communicate the Doctrine of the Church with clarity and conviction.
“Despite the prevalence of Artificial Intelligence, we must still preserve the human dignity we are all aware of. That is why the theme we chose encourages us to preserve human voices and faces as Catholic Communicators,” Bishop Bibi noted.
The Secretary General of the NECC, Monsignor Paul Nyaga, also addressed the participants. Conveying the sentiments of the Bishops of Cameroon, he expressed the Hierarchy’s desire that this Council fosters deeper collaboration and promotes a communication model that is truly human and mission-oriented.
