The victims were preparing for the GCE exams, which mark the end of the secondary school cycle in the country. One policeman was also shot while returning from patrol with his colleagues in Bamenda.
This Tuesday morning, gunmen shot dead two students in the Mankon, Bamenda II as they began the GCE Advanced Level examination. The assailants shot them during an attack on the St Frederik Mubang College.
Although there has been no claim of responsibility for the attack, local people have blamed separatists’ fighters, who have a history of attacks on schools in the North West and South West regions. For several years, armed separatist groups have tried to force all schools in these regions to close to protest against the State of Cameroon.
This attack comes two days after an attack on a bar in the city of Bamenda. Two people were killed. As a security measure, the Mezam Senior devisional officer, Simon Emile Mooh, has issued a ban on the use of motorbike taxis in the three sub-division of Bamenda. This measure applies every night between 6.30pm and 6.30am.
