The deadly attack was recorded in the South West Region, but has not yet been officially reported by the authorities.

Buea, headquarter of the South West region, was the scene of a violent attack by secessionist fighters on the night of Saturday August 24, 2024. According to local sources, three police officers lost their lives in the attack, while two others managed to escape from their assailants. Media outlets reported that armed men arrived at the Bwitingi police station in Buea at around 10:30pm. They attacked the policemen as they stood guard at a makeshift security post near the Bwitingi market on the road to Buea.

One of the police officers killed was from the town’s central police station, the second from Molyko police station and the third from Muea police station. A few hours after the attack, the Fako Mountain Lions, a small group of separatists active in the south-west, claimed responsibility.

In a message posted on social network sites, the Fako Mountain Lions displayed three assault rifles they said were recovered from the slain policemen, a claim made by Cho Ayaba, a well-known separatist leader of the Ambazonia Liberation War. “The Fako Mountain Lions attacked the enemy in the depths of Molyko and recovered three assault rifles. Special status was served. No retreat, no surrender, no compromise until freedom comes,” he declared.
