The report highlights human rights abuses. It was published by a non-governmental organisation known as Un Monde Avenir.

In 2023, 403 people were killed in the North West and South West regions, 169 in the Far North and 26 in other regions. These statistics are contained in a report prepared by the NGO dubbed Un Monde Avenir and co-sponsored by the Canadian High Commission in Cameroon. According to the report, there has been an increase in the number of human rights violations in Cameroon as compared to that of 2022, with murders being the most common form of abuse.

Those killed include at least 335 civilians and at least 134 members of the defence and security forces, 130 members of non-state armed groups. Among the most heinous killings were those of the journalists Martinez Zogo and Jean-Jacques Ola Bébé.

In addition, 209 people have been kidnapped, 161 in the North West and South West, 25 in the Far North and 48 in the other seven regions. Arbitrary arrests are also mentioned in the report. 911 cases were registered, of which 869 in the North West and South West regions.

The NGO is calling on the government to set up mechanisms to denounce abuses by prison staff and the extortion of prisoners, to report on the progress of investigations launched against state agents suspected of killing civilians and to make the results public…
