The Ministry of Public Works is now scheduling delivery of the second section of the Babadjou-Bamenda roadworks for 18 January 2024, with a risk of a five-month delay.
This section will be the last to be completed. The other two sections, the first and third, will be delivered later this year. Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, who visited the worksite earlier this week, has made no secret of his desire to complete this road, which was started in 2017. Initially, the plan was to complete the project in two years. However, this deadline was missed because of the security crisis in the North-West region.
Work was relaunched in 2022, with the stated ambition of completing the entire project by 2023. However, heavy rainfall slowed down the activities of Bun’s, the contractor for the first and second sections. Minister Nganou Djoumessi now maintains that everything will be finished next year.
This haste also conceals the interest that this road represents for Cameroon. According to Mintp’s explanations, this road will “contribute to improving the efficiency and safety of road transport”. Above all, it will help link Cameroon to the city of Enugu in Nigeria.
