Last April 2, 2024, the 11 members of the Constitutional Council took the oath of office before the country’s Senators and Deputies.

The ceremony was presided over by the President of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, and attended by the President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji. It underlined the importance of the Constitutional Council for the democratic functioning of Cameroon. This body is responsible for ensuring that laws are constitutional, guaranteeing citizens’ rights and maintaining the balance of power.

The 11-member body is crucial in protecting the constitution and citizens’ fundamental rights. At the swearing-in ceremony, the members of the Constitutional Council renewed their commitment to justice and the rule of law. They include experienced figures such as Clément Atangana, Sanda Bah Oumarou and Paul Nkwi Nchoji. Their long careers as judges provide valuable expertise to this important body.

By taking an oath, the members of the Constitutional Council pledge to carry out their duties with impartiality, independence and integrity.
