It was during a ceremony held at the National Hydrocarbons Corporation headquarters on 15 December.
A total of 13 officials from Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea were present to mark the success of the bilateral agreement on the Yoyo-Yolanda cross-border oil and gas field project. The agreement focuses on the joint exploitation of cross-border hydrocarbon fields. The agreement was signed by President Paul Biya of Cameroon and Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea on 17 March 2023.
Stakeholder who worked for the success of this negotiation has just been distinguished. This is the result of President Paul Biya’s decision in favour of recognition. And he did so by awarding them with the Medal of Excellence. The medals were presented on 15 December 2023 by the acting Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Advancement, Prof. Fuh Calistus Gentry.
The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the National Hydrocarbons Corporation. It was attended by the Minister, Director of the Civilian Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, Samuel Mvondo’o Ayolo, the Managing Director of the National Hydrocarbons Corporation, Adolphe Moudiki, the Minister of Planning and Economic Diversification of Equatorial Guinea, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima. According to Gabriel Mbaga, “For us, this is a very good example of South-South cooperation and a good example of Africa working to solve problems for its own development. My hope is that next time we will have another ceremony for the launch of the project. “
Experts estimate that the Yoyo/Yolanda field contains 2,500 billion cubic feet of gas, 84% of which is located in Cameroon.
