Following a court hearing in the case of the Ayah Abine Foundation, an arrest warrant has been issued for the spokesman Fecafoot President.
Ernest Obama is being sued for defamation by the Ayah Abine Foundation. The journalist is being prosecuted for comments he made against the NGO, accusing it of complicity in terrorist acts in the North West and South West regions. The case, which has been in the courts for a number of years, has now taken a new turn.
The Centre Region Court of Appeal recently ordered the former Vision 4 television journalist, who now works for the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), to stand trial. The Court of Appeal rejected an appeal by the spokesman for the President of FECAFOOT challenging the jurisdiction of the Yaounde Court of First Instance in the case.
The case, which had been progressing slowly, is now focused on the courts, with the accused poised to be arrested.
According to a source at the Centre Regional Court of Appeal, as reported by the media outlet MimiMefo, “an arrest warrant has already been issued for Mr Ernest Obama”.
According to the same source, a provision for the arrest of Ernest Obama was included in the ruling.
