President Paul Biya is just from validating the texts adopted by Parliament during the last ordinary session.
The President of the Republic has just completed the process of drafting new laws applicable in the country. The texts approved include three laws on internal affairs. The first is the 2024 finance law. Its examination and approval was the focus of the November session of the Parliament, which ended on last December 9. This law sets the State budget for the next financial year at 6,740.1 billion FCFA.
Secondly, the State accounts for the 2022 financial year were approved by the Accounting Act, which was adopted by Parliament shortly before the Finance Act. Finally, the Mining Code of the Republic of Cameroon is one of eight new laws. Its promulgation follows the presidential decree of 14 December 2020 creating the Société Nationale des Mines (Sonamine). This company was created to promote and better organise the mining sector in Cameroon. It amends and complements the 2016 Mining Code, which made no provision for Sonamine.
Finally, in Cameroon’s relations with the rest of the world, five new laws authorise the Head of State to proceed with ratifications. One authorises the head of state to ratify the protocol and statutes of the African Monetary Fund (AMF), an institution with headquarters in Yaounde, the Cameroonian capital. Two laws authorise the Head of State to ratify the visa exemption agreements between Cameroon and the Russian Federation and between Cameroon and Egypt. Two other laws authorise the President of the Republic to ratify the defence agreements between Cameroon and Russia and between Cameroon and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
