Dr. Guy Gweth’s new book, “Puissance 237,” was officially launched on Wednesday, February 26th, at the headquarters of CAVIE (African Centre for Economic Intelligence). The book, a comprehensive analysis of Cameroon’s economic and strategic potential, was presented to national and international press, as well as the public.

The launch event, which drew a diverse audience, featured presentations by Dr. Gweth, the book’s author, as well as prefacier Jean Emmanuel Pondi and postfacier Dr. Evelyne Mengue A Koung.

Dr. Gweth’s work explores various strategies for national development, including hard power (military and security), soft power (cultural influence), and smart power (a combination of both). He also highlighted CAVIE’s achievements in countries like Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Mauritius.

Regarding Cameroon, Dr. Gweth explained that the book’s recommendations are the result of a year-long national consultation with various stakeholders, including the press, government agencies, and civil society. “This intensive activity allowed us to conduct thorough research and analysis of Cameroon’s challenges and opportunities, based on rigorous data and international case studies,” he stated. He also asserted that all future presidential candidates in the October 2025 elections will need to consider the proposals outlined in “Puissance 237.”

Professor Jean Emmanuel Pondi, who wrote the preface, described the book as a 530-page work that provides a valuable framework for Cameroon’s development. He highlighted the country’s strategic position as the fourth-largest economy in Africa, behind Nigeria and South Africa. Dr. Evelyne Mengue A Koung emphasized that African leaders and youth should use the book as a tool for empowerment and awareness. Jean Marc Bikoko praised Dr. Gweth’s achievements and noted that the book reinforces the idea of youth as the driving force of the nation.

Retired Colonel KUITCHEU stated that the book aims to change mindsets and provide alternative solutions to existing development strategies. He suggested that current strategies, such as the National Development Strategy 2030 (SND30), have shown limitations and that a new, results-oriented approach is needed.

Following the Yaoundé launch, Dr. Gweth plans to present the book in other major Cameroonian cities and abroad, targeting the Cameroonian diaspora to create a national movement around the ideas presented in “Puissance 237.”
