The working mission made the trip to assess the progress of the project one year after the announcement of the airport’s rehabilitation.

Last month, Senator Papinatu Fonderson of Fako division, in the South West region, accused the government of neglecting certain regions of the country in favour of others. A few weeks later, an inspection mission left Yaounde for Tiko to visit the airport construction site. This is a year after the project had been launched.

Led by Frédéric Mboto Edimo, Project Manager and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, the government inspection delegation visited the town of Tiko in the South West Region on 1 August. The purpose of the mission was to assess progress on the rehabilitation of the town’s airport. The delegation included the CEO of the Cameroon Airline Corporation and other officials from the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and the Land Registry.

Initial assessments showed that the current Tiko airport site was too small to accommodate the infrastructure the government wanted to install. Tiko airport will therefore be built at Misselele, on the Tiko-Douala road. According to Frédéric Mboto, the necessary conditions have been identified and the path to starting work is clearer.
