This is the conclusion of an audience granted by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute to Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
The World Intellectual Property Organisation wants to open a new chapter in its cooperation with the Cameroonian government, according to Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute. He made the announcement after a working meeting with the Director General of the institution, Daren Tang last Tuesday, June 5 2024.
During their discussions, the international organisation pledged to support Cameroon in the use of intellectual property (IP) for national development and economic growth. Joseph Dion Ngute and Daren Tang also agreed on projects to make intellectual property accessible to young people, entrepreneurs and local communities.
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to inform Daren Tang that Cameroon has put in place policies to tackle the counterfeiting of intellectual property.
On his part, Daren Tang said he is in Cameroon to see how intellectual property can help the country’s development, “Cameroon is a member of the African Intellectual Property Organisation, a grouping of 17 mainly French-speaking countries. We had a very good meeting with the Prime Minister to see how intellectual property can support Cameroon’s national development plan, and a lot of it is about how intellectual property can get down to the grassroots level.”
