Cameroon: Govt seeks to make education system more inclusive
In Cameroon, 9 out of 10 children with disabilities have difficulties accessing education, according to official data. This situation has long been a headache for the government, which now came up with a set of measures aiming at making the education system more inclusive.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Social Affairs (MINAC) launched a national awareness campaign for this purpose in Yaoundé. Minister Pauline Irène Nguéné says all stakeholders, including parents, will be involved in this cause.

Bamenda: works resume at proximity stadium, fans say taking too long
Football Fans have lamented over the slow rate of work at the still uncompleted Bamenda Proximity Stadium. The project which was supposed to be completed by December 31st 2022 is yet to be completed 5 months after the deadline. According to some fans, the delay in the construction has caused clubs from the region to lose most of their games putting them in the relegation zone this season.

Cameroon: WFP Improves Rice Production In Cameroon
As part of the fight against food insecurity, a WFP food quality and safety team accompanied by Simplice Sadou, the regional delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture for the Far North, is visiting the rice production structures based in Maroua. The objective is to fight against food insecurity by strengthening the production techniques of rice enrichment units in micro-nutrients and vitamins. Indeed, it should be noted that locally produced rice is enriched with vitamins A, B6, iron and zinc… elements that are essential in the fight against malnutrition, especially among children under five and those of school age.

The statement issued by the Minister of Defence (Mindef) Joseph Beti Assomo said the delegation will take part in the event at the invitation of the kingdom. “On the special invitation of the King of England, His Royal Highness King Charles III, former Prince of Wales, having inherited the throne of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the delegation of the Defence Forces of Cameroon has travelled to England to participate in the parade on the occasion of his coronation,” wrote Mindef. The soldiers selected are from the gendarmerie, the army, the air force and the navy, said MINDEF, according to a statement by the head of the defense Joseph Beti Assomo. They are led by Major Foming Rodrigue Boris.

Patrice Melom, MD of the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK), announced the signing yesterday of an MoU with four companies for the development of an integrated industrial zone within the port area. The project, valued at $900 million (CFA550.3 billion) will be installed on 1,500 ha. According to PAK, the project is expected to create 50,000 direct jobs. Parties involved include Bolloré Africa Logistics of France, which is now owned by the Italian-Swiss company MSC since December 2022

The top management of Customs informs that for the period between 2020 and 2022, it has collected about CFAF 2,457 billion, “for a target of CFAF 2,318 billion, a rate of achievement of 106%. These figures are revealed by the Director General (DG) of the institution. “Over the same period, budgetary customs revenue improved from CFAF 707 billion in 2020 to CFAF 897 billion in 2022, an overall increase of nearly CFAF 190 billion in absolute value and 26.8% in relative value,” said GM Edwin Fongod Nuvaga on February 3.
For the year 2023, the institution has set itself the target of collecting nearly CFAF 1,027 billion.

The Cameroonian Customs Administration is expecting the newly-introduced cocoa beans export tax to generate between CFA20 billion and CFA25 billion this year. The finance law states that the export of raw cocoa beans is subject to an autonomous exit duty at a rate of 10% of the FOB value. This rate is 2% for cocoa beans exported to industrial free points or similar systems.
