The people of Limbe, South-West region of Cameroon can now boast of gaining access to quality education. This thanks to a state-of-the-art  Solar-powered Digital Learning E-Container facility that will cover over 600 children of the locality. The modern infrastructure, which is a result of a fruitful partnership between UNICEF and HIS Towers, was officially inaugurated on Thursday March 5, 2026. The advent of this third IHS supported facility in Cameroon is set to expand access to safe, quality, and inclusive learning for the over 600 children affected by crisis and living in vulnerable communities, as part of a broader “connect my school initiative”.

The new facility will serve as a comprehensive digital ecosystem for four local partner schools, notably Government Practicing Schools Mile 1 (Groups 1 and 2), Ecole Publique Francophone d’Application Mile 1, and Government Practicing School Towe.  Beyond being just a room with computers, the E-Container is fully equipped with desktops, tablets, and digital learning tools that are strictly aligned with the national basic education curriculum. These tools are powered by an autonomous solar energy system, ensuring that learning remains uninterrupted by the unreliable local power grid.

Emphasis was equally made on the aspect of human capacity and long-term sustainability. The program includes structured training for teachers to master digital pedagogy, helping them integrate technology seamlessly into their daily lessons. Students gain guided access to interactive content aimed at boosting foundational literacy, numeracy, and science skills. Furthermore, School Management Committees and parents are actively engaged through orientation sessions to foster a sense of community ownership and ensure the responsible use of these expensive digital assets.

Beyond its educational impact, the E-Container stands as a model for climate-smart innovation in infrastructure. By utilizing repurposed materials and renewable energy, the project reduces its carbon footprint—a vital consideration for a coastal municipality like Limbe that is increasingly vulnerable to climate-related risks. Nadine Perrault, the UNICEF Representative in Cameroon, highlighted that the facility represents “opportunity, resilience, and innovation,” providing a stable learning sanctuary for children who have often seen their education disrupted by displacement.

This milestone underscores the transformative power of private-sector partnerships in advancing children’s rights. Supported by the Italian National Committee for UNICEF and IHS Towers, the initiative reflects a global commitment to ensuring that no child, regardless of their circumstances, is left behind in the digital age. As these 600 children connect to new opportunities for growth, the Limbe E-Container serves as a strategic blueprint for how technology and green energy can bridge the educational gap in crisis-affected regions.
