The celebration of the 41st International Women’s Day in Buea was a masterclass in elegance and purpose, centered at the historic Bongo Square.
This year’s theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” resonated throughout the ceremonial grounds as thousands of women from various professional and community sectors converged for the traditional march-past.
The event was presided over by the South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, who lauded the resilience of women in the region and emphasized their indispensable role in national development and community stability.
The atmosphere was electric as the crowd welcomed a high-profile delegation from the entertainment industry, adding a touch of glamour to the serious advocacy of the day. Nigerian Nollywood icon Regina Daniels made a stunning appearance alongside Cameroonian stars Syndy Emade, Prisma James, and Mbeng Lilian. Dressed in the vibrant official 2026 commemorative fabric, the actresses marched with the various women’s groups, symbolizing the unity between the creative arts and grassroots female empowerment. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of how cultural influencers can amplify the call for gender equality.
Beyond the pageantry of the parade, the day was filled with rich cultural displays and exhibitions that showcased the economic and artistic potential of women in the South West Region.
Governor Okalia Bilai used the platform to urge women to be proactive in taking their destinies into their own hands, noting that no professional field in Cameroon remains closed to them. This sentiment was echoed by the South West Regional Delegate for Women’s Empowerment, who highlighted the significant strides made by women in business and education across the region.
The spirit of the celebration transitioned from the public square to a deeply personal setting on Monday, as the stars translated their advocacy into action.

Regina Daniels, Syndy Emade, and Prisma James, accompanied by popular blogger Fuchor, carried out a heartfelt humanitarian outreach at the Buea Regional Hospital. They spent the afternoon in the maternity ward, visiting mothers who had recently given birth. This visit bridged the gap between the “glamour” of the previous day’s march and the raw, maternal realities that many Cameroonian women face, emphasizing that justice for women must include access to quality healthcare.
During the hospital visit, the team distributed essential items to nursing mothers, providing both material support and emotional encouragement. These acts of kindness reinforced the message that empowerment is not just a slogan for a parade, but a continuous commitment to support women in their most vulnerable moments.
Speaking with the women, the actresses reminded them that every child is a precious blessing and encouraged them as they begin their journey into motherhood.
The day concluded with the nursing mothers and the star-studded delegation sharing moments of joy, proving that the true essence of International Women’s Day lies in the tangible bonds of sisterhood and the collective effort to uplift every woman in the community.
