The 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization – MC14 remains firmly on track for Yaoundé, effectively silencing recent social media rumors that suggest a relocation of the host city from Yaounde to Geneva.

On Monday, March 16, 2026, the Cameroonian government through the Minister of Trade, demonstrated its progress through two high-level meetings that confirmed the city’s readiness. These sessions served as a direct rebuttal to “fake news,” proving that the logistical and diplomatic machinery is moving forward as planned to host this critical global event.

A key highlight of the day was a high-level videoconference featuring World Trade Organization – WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Cameroon’s Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana.

During the meeting, which included vice-chairpersons and facilitating ministers from around the world, stakeholders finalized the conference format and coordinated agendas.

Minister Mbarga Atangana noted the “evident enthusiasm” of member countries, with some delegations even planning to arrive early enough, reinforcing the fact that the conference will see massive, in-person ministerial participation.

Following the international briefing, the National Organizing Committee met to review the internal logistical framework. They covered every aspect ranging from security and health to transport and culture. This review was attended by a WTO delegation led by Danio Campanelli, the Coordinator of Ministerial Conferences.

Mr. Campanelli praised the various subcommittees for their dedication, noting that several groups have already exceeded the requirements laid out in the official specifications, signaling a high level of local commitment to excellence.

As the countdown continues, the stakes for this meeting remain historically high with Minister Mbarga Atangana describing the Yaounde summit as a “turning point for the survival of the WTO.” While final technical adjustments are being made to meet global standards, the positive trajectory confirms that Cameroon is prepared to serve as the hub for international trade negotiations.

The successful coordination between Geneva and Yaoundé ensures that the focus remains on substantive policy rather than unfounded speculation.
