The association More Women In Politics held its ordinary general assembly in Yaoundé on January 14 and 15, 2026, where it unveiled its ambitions to strengthen the position of Cameroonian women in decision-making circles. This goal falls in line with the Head of States message of empowering more youth and women.
As of now, women hold nearly 30% of parliamentary seats, with 77 women elected between 2020 and 2025. After years of relentless advocacy to achieve these results, the association is now setting its sights on a 50/50 parity goal. During the assembly, Founding President Professor Justine Diffo stated that the organization must consolidate its gains and increase the percentage of women in the National Assembly.
To reach these targets, the association adopted a strategic and operational plan for the 2026-2027 period. Key initiatives of this plane include A mobile “clinical” program designed to build the capacity of potential candidates for the 2026 legislative and municipal elections.
The caravan will deploy across several regions of Cameroon under the theme: “As a Candidate, I Master My Electoral Checklist from A to Z.”. The association intends to lobby for formal regulations that would mandate a 30% minimum quota for women on candidate lists for legislative and municipal polls.
The “More Women In Politics” initiative is also prioritizing youth through several focused efforts: More Youth In Politics: A newly created youth wing dedicated to mentoring young girls in responsible leadership and civic engagement. This is to empowering the Next Generation.
The association is expanding its reach into humanitarian work, specifically focusing on reproductive health and girls’ education.
