This was announced after a working session with the UN Secretary General’s, Representative for West Africa, Leonardo Santos Simao.
Cameroon and Nigeria share a 1690km border. In recent years, the countries have had disputes, with for instance between Nigerian herdsmen and separatist fighters in Gayama, which left 12 dead and 20 injured. Other disputes have taken place in the Rhumsiki and Kotcha villages in the Far North region.
But it seems that a path to peace has been found. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute received on March 6, Leonardo Santo Simao who chairs the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission. The head of the government said in a tweet,
Perfect agreement between the two parties to complete the work, which has so far stalled in three areas. These are Rhumsiki and Kotcha villages in the Far North Region and Terminal 8 in the North Region, a distance of 36km.
