On Monday, April 6, 2026, Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, H.E. Mbella Mbella, chaired a high-level preparatory meeting in Yaoundé to coordinate the upcoming Apostolic Visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV.

Scheduled to take place from April 15 to 18, this journey marks the fourth time a Roman Pontiff has visited Cameroonian soil, a milestone the Minister highlighted as deeply symbolic for the nation. The session brought together key government figures, including Minister Delegate H.E. Félix Mbayu and representatives from the Ministry of Transport, to align the state’s strategy for this momentous religious and diplomatic event.

A primary focus of the deliberations was the technical and logistical readiness of the country’s infrastructure, specifically involving the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority. Led by Director General Paule Assoumou Koki, aviation stakeholders discussed the rigorous security and protocol measures necessary to welcome the Vatican’s high-level delegation.

Minister Mbella Mbella also confirmed that Cameroon’s diplomatic outposts in Italy—the embassies to the Vatican and Rome—have already completed significant groundwork to ensure the visit aligns with international standards and official itineraries.

The meeting concluded with a call for total synergy among all organizing bodies to ensure the event’s success. As the official program was unveiled, officials emphasized that the safety and seamless movement of the Holy Father’s entourage are paramount.

By fostering close cooperation between civil aviation, security forces, and diplomatic staff, Cameroon aims to demonstrate its hospitality and organizational excellence during what is expected to be a historic four-day event for the Central African region.
