Two Dangote trucks and three others carrying prohibited goods to Cameroon have been intercepted by the Nigerian Army.
According to Nigerian media reports, five trucks were allegedly transporting prohibited goods to Cameroon. On their way from Nigeria, they were intercepted by the country’s army. The interception followed a decree issued by the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, banning building materials from crossing the border on Adamawa roads.
The trucks, each loaded with 600 50kg bags of cement, were presented to journalists at the Nigerian police headquarters in Yola, the headquarter of the Adamawa State, on Friday, according to Nigerian online media. Speaking at the joint presentation of the vehicles, the spokesmen for the Governor and the Police Command, Humwashi Wonasikou and SP Suleiman Nguroje respectively, told journalists that the trucks had been intercepted a few kilometres before Jamtari, a village bordering Nigeria and Cameroon. Wonasikou said:
” We are all living witnesses to the government’s policy of banning the movement of construction materials across the country’s borders. We are a border state and we have had problems getting things across the border.
According to saharareporters, officials of Dangote Cement’s Yola depot who were present vehemently denied that the products were shipped to Cameroon. Dangote Cement Plc is a Nigerian multinational cement company headquartered in Lagos and is a subsidiary of the Dangote Group, a Nigerian multinational industrial conglomerate founded by Aliko Dangote.
