Supporters and fans of the indomitable lions of Cameroon have their hearts filled with joy and hope for Cameroon’s stay in the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco. This joy comes after the indomitable lions grabbed their flight ticket to the quarter-finals of the game after imposing themselves in a  2–1 victory over the Bafana Bafan of South Africa.

The match that was played yesterday January 4, 2026 the Al-Medina Stadium, witnessed the clinical display of the Indomitable Lions who did not relent any efforts in overshadowing their opponent. Despite South Africa dominating ball possession early on, Cameroon struck first in the 34th minute with Junior Tchamadeu netting in the first goal on the match propelling the Lions ahead.

The Lions wasted no time after the break to roar. In the 47th minute, Christian Kofane doubled the lead with a powerful header, that was expertly set up by a cross from Mahamadou Nagida. His second international goal with the indomitable lions.

In the finish, the score was narrowed down by a late goal that came in from by Makgopa, South Africa’s Evidence in the 88th minute. Though the goal created a tense finale, the Cameroonian defense, led by Christopher Wooh and Carlos Baleba, who was named Man of the Match, was held firm until the blow of the final whistle. Equally qualified for the quarter-finals this day were Mali and Morocco.

The victory of the David Pagou’s boys has moved Cameroon 12+ places up on FIFA ranking from 57th to 45th position with a total of 1482 points. It equally sparked a break in the silence of the Cameroon Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, who had not made any comment since the start of the games.

In an official statement, the Minister praised the Indomitable Lions’ performance and extended its congratulations to the entire team. “As an additional incentive and motivation, Minsep, on behalf of the State, has just ordered the payment of their qualification and victory bonuses, totaling 18,180,000 FCFA per player,” it declared. Through this financial and symbolic gesture, the State of Cameroon reaffirms its support for the Indomitable Lions, who are now called upon to pursue their continental adventure with ambition and determination.

The Lions next match is against host country Morocco, scheduled for Friday, January 9, 2026 at the Complex Spotif Prince Moulay Abdellah.
