Trade between the two countries increased from 712 billion CFA francs in 2022 to 772 billion CFA francs in 2023, according to the UK Cameroon Chamber of Commerce.
The weight of trade between Cameroon and the UK crossed 772 billion CFA francs in 2023. This figure, which is 22% higher than in 2022, was announced last June 26 at the ordinary General Assembly of the UK Cameroon Chamber of Commerce.
“I am delighted with the progress we have made in our trade partnership. Last year, our bilateral trade grew by more than 22% to reach £1 billion (CFAF 772 billion). There are real assets here in Cameroon. A well-educated population, natural resources…” said Barry Lowen, British High Commissioner to Cameroon.
The diplomat explains that this increase of 60 billion CFA francs is due to Cameroonian exports to the British market and vice versa. In 2023, Cameroon exported crude oil and agricultural products such as cocoa, coffee and fruit to the UK.
To increase trade and encourage investment, the UK has produced a bilateral trade guide to raise awareness of trade opportunities between the two countries. Sectors targeted for British investment in Cameroon include agriculture, energy, infrastructure, banking and finance, etc.
According to Elias Pungong, President of the UK Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, the purpose of the General Assembly was not only to take stock, but also to define new directions for cooperation between the two countries.
