The US government has just made available to Cameroon a shipment of 11,214 tonnes of rice – 2.2 million 50-kilo bags each.
This is through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This food aid is being made available to the World Food Programme (WFP) for distribution to people in need in the Far North, North West and South West regions, as well as to refugees from the Central African Republic in the East region, according to the US Embassy in Yaoundé.
“The United States government, through USAID, and its partner, the WFP, have financed this food donation to help combat food insecurity in Cameroon and the Central African Republic. This donation of rice will help Cameroon meet the food and nutritional needs of refugees, internally displaced persons and their host communities in the regions most vulnerable to food insecurity”, says the US Embassy.
This donation supports the efforts of the government and its partners to help 2.3 million food-insecure people in Cameroon, according to UN figures.
