Under the theme “Observe today, protect tomorrow,” Cameroon joined the rest of the International body to celebrate the 66th edition of World Meteorological Day with a high-level roundtable discussion on Monday, March 23, 2026.

The event was presided over by Jean Ernest Masséna Ngallè Bibehè, Cameroon’s Minister of Transport – MINT, and held at the ministry’s conference hall in Yaounde.

The gathering brought together key officials from the Ministry of Transport, experts from the National Directorate of Meteorology – DMN, and strategic technical partners, including the Center for Research and Studies on Climate Change – CRECC and the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar – ASECNA.

In his keynote address, Minister Ngallè Bibehè emphasized on the proactive nature of the sector, stating: “Observing today means not only understanding our environment but also anticipating risks and preparing a safer future for generations to come.”

He highlighted meteorology as a vital strategic tool for public decision-making, especially as global climate risks continue to intensify.

The discussions showcased Cameroon’s significant progress in meteorological observation and climate forecasting. Key presentations focused on World Meteorological Organization – WMO programs, the strengthening of national early warning systems, and the integration of hydrometeorological data into disaster prevention mechanisms.

Particular emphasis was made on technological innovations—such as satellite systems and next-generation climate models—which have vastly improved the accuracy of forecasts for critical sectors like aviation.

Concluding the session, the Minister of Transport reaffirmed government’s commitment to modernizing meteorological infrastructure and enhancing human technical capacity.

He noted that technological advancements offer “extraordinary perspectives” for the sector, allowing the nation to better anticipate extreme weather events, build national resilience, and promote sustainable development across all regions.
