Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is a humanitarian and development agency of the Catholic Church based in the United States of America. Established in 1943, CRS works in nearly 100 countries to reduce poverty and suffering worldwide. It was established in Cameroon in 1960.

CRS is currently looking for vocational training centres or workshops in the Far North region. The aim is to train 250 young learners aged between 18 and 35 from three districts (Mokolo, Koza and Mayo-Moskoda) in the Mayo-Tsanaga division. According to newsducamer.com, the learners will be trained in sewing, animal husbandry, electricity, car mechanics, masonry, carpentry, petty trade and small-scale processing. This project aims to contribute to stabilisation and reconciliation in the regions most affected around Lake Chad. It will also improve productive and social infrastructure, stimulate economic activity, strengthen social cohesion and local governance.

According to the World Bank, economic growth in Cameroon has failed to reduce poverty equitably across all regions, mainly due to geographical and social inequalities, an unfavourable business environment characterised by delayed infrastructure development and weak governance.
