The Bandenkop community of Yaounde gathered at the Annex B football field of the Olembe Sports Complex on August 23, 2026, to mark the successful conclusion of the 4th edition of the Bandenkop Excellence Challenge.

Organized to bring together sons and daughters of the community living in and around the capital city, the event seamlessly blended academic recognition, athletic competition, commercial exhibitions, and rich cultural displays. Attendees were treated to a dynamic program featuring trade fair stands, competitive football matches, and traditional musical performances executed by community members.

Centering heavily on youth empowerment, this year’s ceremony honored over 400 outstanding pupils and students for their exceptional academic achievements during the past school year. The event matron, Lisette Claudia TAME NJAMBE, CEO of META INVEST and newly crowned Liedze Medidiphê, actively participated in handing over educational equipment to the laureates.

Each deserving child received crucial school supplies, including textbooks, exercise books, bags, pens, and pencils. During her address, she encouraged the youth to leverage traditional Bamileke values, such as courtesy, respect for the spoken word, justice, wisdom, and solidarity, as fundamental pillars for future entrepreneurial and personal success.

Prominent traditional authorities and dignitaries graced the grandstand, led by François Wague, President of the Bandenkop Community Council of Yaoundé. In his first major public address as council president, Wague paid tribute to community patriarchs, notably Moyo Michel, who initiated the event a decade ago, as well as His Majesty Francis, Chief Superior King of Bandenkop.

Emphasizing a strategic vision for collective prosperity beyond 2050, Wague praised his team’s commitment to securing premier infrastructure for the community and highlighted the necessity of unity, shared solidarity, and shared effort for the development of Bandenkop youth.

Sikali David Bertrand, President of the Organizing Committee for the Academic Excellence Award ceremony, highlighted the event’s massive turnout and community impact. Despite minor organizational and technical hurdles, an estimated 2,000 community members, spanning multiple generations from children to grandparents, assembled to foster communal bonds. Bertrand detailed the rigorous academic benchmarks required for the awards, which included minimum average scores of 14 for primary students, 12 for secondary, and 13 for higher education, along with distinction-level requirements on national examinations.

The success of the academic initiative was evident in the impressive performance records presented by the young scholars. Organizers noted with pride that nearly 14 primary school children achieved stellar average scores of 18 or higher, earning them placement in a specialized “excellent” category.

The organizing committee envisions using these benchmark results to build a dedicated talent nursery, preparing young Bandenkop scholars to become leading professionals across various sectors in Cameroon over the next two decades.

The emotional heart of the event was captured through the reactions of the young laureates themselves. Teumou Kenmoe Anaelle Jade, a primary pupil transitioning into Class 5 who received school supplies, expressed immense pride in her hard work and expressed deep gratitude toward her parents, teachers, and late grandmother. Her joyful reaction reflected the overarching goal of the organizers: rewarding youth dedication while fostering strong family and community pride.

The grandiose closing ceremony brought the multi-activity event to a memorable end, reinforcing the community’s shared identity and commitment to progress. Organizers and community leaders noted the lessons learned from this edition and pledged to address logistics, such as power supply requirements, to ensure even smoother operations for future gatherings. Ultimately, the event fulfilled its core mission of inspiring the next generation while mobilizing the Bandenkop people toward a united, progressive, and prosperous future.

The event ended with an award ceremony where trophies were given to members who were instrumental in the organization of the 4th edition as well as participants in the football match that was played.
