Cameroon’s Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLE BIBEHE, received a high-level Egyptian delegation in Yaounde on September 9, 2026, to advance bilateral infrastructure cooperation under the framework of South-South partnerships.
Led by Karim Sherif, Minister Delegate in charge of African Affairs, the delegation included representatives from Egypt’s foreign affairs, maritime transport, and aviation sectors, alongside major industrial firms such as ARAB CONTRACTORS and ELSEWEDY Electric.
Opening the session, Minister NGALLE BIBEHE highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between Yaoundé and Cairo while identifying key operational priorities, particularly finalized air and maritime agreements requiring immediate implementation.
The visit focused on exploring strategic investment and technical collaboration opportunities across Cameroon’s maritime, aviation, railway, road, and meteorological sectors. During the exchanges, ARAB CONTRACTORS showcased its capabilities in public works, shipbuilding, and railway development, expressing interest in upcoming Cameroonian rail expansion projects. Simultaneously, ELSEWEDY presented smart public transit solutions, including electric buses and infrastructure management systems, positioning themselves to support modern urban transport initiatives in the country.
Cameroonian officials presented several flagship infrastructure developments to the delegation, beginning with civil aviation and maritime ports. Discussions highlighted the progress of a proposed world-class airport in the Littoral Region, as well as ongoing strategic port projects including the rehabilitation of the Garoua port, construction at Limbe, Phase III expansion at the Port of Kribi, and extension works at the Port of Douala. Technical and financial partnership models were offered to Egyptian stakeholders for these port expansions, as well as for seafarer certification centers and digital vessel registry systems.
In the railway, road, and meteorological domains, technical teams outlined both network rehabilitation and new track construction plans, which drew direct interest from Egyptian contractors. Road transport discussions centered on electric vehicle integration, road safety surveillance, and driver training programs.
Meanwhile, the meteorological sector presented cross-cutting opportunities for technical assistance, including train-the-trainer initiatives, calibration of weather station equipment, and solar power integration for remote monitoring stations.
Concluding the audience, Minister NGALLE BIBEHE established three immediate action items to formalize the partnership outcomes. These focus areas include the swift execution of the pending 2019 bilateral air services agreement, the draft of a maritime cooperation framework between the port authorities of both nations, and structured follow-up technical meetings to advance joint initiatives in road safety, rail infrastructure, and meteorology.
