The consolidation of Diplomatic ties between the World Bank and Cameroon especially when is comes to the transport sector is primordial to Cameroon. It is in this light that the Minister of Transport – Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLÈ BIBEHÈ, (MINT), received in an audience Yesterday January 20, 2026, a delegation from the World Bank (WB).
The meeting took place in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation between Cameroon and the World Bank within the transport sector. Present at this audience were some key actors of the sector amongts which ZAKARIAOU, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Transport (MINDEL); MVEIMANI SOMBO AMBA, Secretary-General (SG); the Director General of CAMRAIL; the Director of Road Transport (DTR); the Director of Rail Transport (DTF); a representative of the Head of the Division for Studies, Planning, Programming, and Cooperation (DEPPCO); and officials from the Monitoring Unit (CELSUI) and the Communication Unit (CELCOM).
In his opening remarks, the Minister emphasized that this meeting was part of a mutual desire to consolidate bilateral partnership ties. The ultimate goal is to sustainably improve transport infrastructure and services to drive the country’s socio-economic development.
The discussions focused on several issues like Road Safety, where the World Bank had to ensure continuous financing of the various activities in this field, notably through the Transport Sector Development Project – PDST, the Interim Resource Allocation Plan – PACRI and the PCDN (Douala–N’Djamena Rail/Road Corridor Performance Improvement Project) facilitation measures.
Both parties welcomed the progress achieved and reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying actions to durably reduce road insecurity.
A detailed review was conducted on the Douala–N’Djamena Rail/Road Corridor Performance Improvement Project (PCDN), which officially entered into force on June 13, 2024. Updates were given of the progress on rehabilitating sections of existing rail infrastructure, the improvement of transit operations on the intermodal corridor, the gradual implementation of the facilitation component, marked by the publication of expressions of interest and the signing of the first contracts.
It was noted that the full launch of specific activities depends on finalizing technical studies and procurement procedures, which are expected to wrap up during 2026. The World Bank reiterated its readiness to support stakeholders in reducing delays and meeting shared objectives.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the quality of their partnership and reaffirmed their dedication to the efficient and diligent implementation of current and upcoming projects.
The Minister concluded the meeting by thanking the World Bank delegation for its steadfast support of Cameroon’s transport infrastructure. He instructed his teams to ensure the serene continuation of ongoing projects and the thorough preparation of future initiatives, highlighting their undeniable socio-economic benefits.
