On February 5, 2026, the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, officially inaugurated the “KKUMAYAS WARDA” Shopping Center in Yaoundé. The high-profile ceremony was attended by the High Commissioner of India to Cameroon, Shri Vijay Khanbuja, as well as the Senior Divisional Officer of Mfoundi and local municipal authorities.

Strategically located in the Warda district—location between the Élysée Bakery and the Directorate General of Taxation—the complex covers a total area of 4,700 m². This project reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing the nation’s commercial infrastructure.

A “Cash and Carry” Revolution

Minister Mbarga Atangana noted that the achievement aligns with the directives of President Paul Biya to transform Cameroon’s commercial landscape. KKUMAYAS introduces a “Cash and Carry” concept, which is a game-changer for the local market.

The store caters for all groups of persons. Wholesale traders, corporate groups, and individual shop all under one roof. Large-scale consumption products are offered at wholesale prices, making essential goods accessible to a broader demographic. The Minister emphasized on government’s role in ensuring price transparency and the permanent availability of goods.

Beyond retail, the new complex serves as a catalyst for socio-economic growth. The center has already created nearly 200 direct and indirect jobs bridging the gap between youth and employment. The edifice stimulates the transport, logistics, and local production sectors. The infrastructure is designed to be a powerful vehicle for promoting locally manufactured goods and the “Consume Local” movement. It will equally broaden the tax base, providing essential resources for public policy funding.

Diplomatic Dimensions

The High Commissioner of India to Cameroon praised the bilateral cooperation between the two nations. He highlighted that Indian investors view Cameroon as a “land of opportunity,” with KKUMAYAS serving as a success story that encourages further foreign direct investment.

”Commerce is not just an economic activity; it is a strategic lever for social stability and the fight against poverty,” stated Minister Mbarga Atangana before the symbolic ribbon-cutting and a guided tour of the facility.
