The Minister of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, chaired the second session of the Steering Committee for the Special Reconstruction and Development Program for the Far North Region – PSRDREN on August 31, 2026, in Yaounde.

The session focused on evaluating overall progress, overcoming implementation bottlenecks, and approving the 2026 Annual Work Plan and Budget – PTBA.

This second session marks significant momentum following the committee’s inaugural meeting on February 20, 2025. The presidential plan focuses on key structural projects designed to revitalize the region.

Priority intervention areas include road infrastructure, the development of the Logone Valley, economic recovery across the Lake Chad Basin territories, basic social infrastructure, and productive economic activities.

Financially, the initiative has seen a massive surge in backing from state and development partners. Dedicated funding for the Presidential Plan increased from over 600 billion FCFA to nearly 800 billion FCFA. This funding bump underscores strong institutional commitment toward accelerating physical and financial project execution.

Government officials have declared 2026 as the year of acceleration and tangible impact for the Far North. The primary objective is to convert these newly secured financial resources into functional infrastructure, concrete local achievements, and long-term economic opportunities for affected communities.

Human capital development remains a core pillar of the broader regional strategy. In 2026, the government is rolling out the “Building Capacities and Skills for Employability and Entrepreneurship in the Far North Region of Cameroon” – CAP2E program.

Through these joint economic and human development efforts, the government aims to foster inclusive growth, strengthen community resilience, and ensure lasting economic recovery.
