Cameroon’s Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, signed a loan agreement worth €212.35 million (approximately FCFA 139.2 billion) with Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), marking a major step toward modernizing national infrastructure.

Executed on October 13, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand, the landmark financial agreement will fully support the execution of the Douala–Bafoussam Road Rehabilitation Project – PRRDB.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, taking place from October 12 to 18 in Thailand.

This agreement highlights the deepening bilateral cooperation between Cameroon and the IsDB, reflecting a shared commitment to developing sustainable transport networks and accelerating national economic growth across key corridors.

Framed directly within Cameroon’s National Development Strategy 2020–2030 – SND30, the rehabilitation project focuses on fundamentally upgrading mobility for both passengers and commercial freight between the Littoral and West regions.

The strategic corridor links the nation’s economic capital and chief seaport to one of its most productive agricultural hinterlands, making its structural upgrade a top priority for national economic resilience.

Once completed, the rehabilitated highway is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, reduce travel times, and streamline the transport of agricultural produce to major urban consumption centers.

Furthermore, by improving road quality and logistics reliability, the project will strengthen regional trade flows and enhance commercial exchanges with neighboring Central African nations.

This substantial funding commitment underscores international confidence in Cameroon’s infrastructure agenda and marks a critical milestone for the SND30 framework. Through continued collaboration with global institutions like the IsDB, Cameroon continues to strengthen its core transport networks, driving regional integration and economic transformation.
