The operation took place on last July 30 under the supervision the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, at the Nsam dumpsite in Yaounde.
It was a virtually deserted site, specially chosen for the destruction of a large consignment of 62 bags of cannabis weighing a total of 1,614.8 kg. Minister Paul Atanga Nji was accompanied by the governor of the Centre region, Naseri Paul Béa, the Mfoundi senior Divisional officer, Emmanuel Marie Djikdent, the Yaounde city Mayor, Luc Messi Atangana, the police and defence forces and members of the national fire brigade.
Minister Atanga Nji took the opportunity to congratulate the police, the gendarmerie, the administrative authorities and the judiciary, who worked in synergy to get their hands on this large stock of cannabis, valued at almost CFA francs 400 million.
In addition to the consignment seized in Yaounde on July 02, thanks to the bravery and intelligence of the police, five traffickers were also arrested during the same operation. A network of cannabis traffickers was uncovered, starting in the Bui division in the North West region, passing through the Noun division (West region) and heading towards the Far north.
He said that the hunt would continue with the utmost vigour because drug trafficking was not only a destructive scourge but also a breeding ground for organised crime.
