The living standard in Cameroon has been on the rise for the past few months. And President Paul Biya has taken steps towards helping households. In a presidential decree issued last February 21, he just set the new level of the family allowances. Order n°2024/056 of 21/02/2024, the decree stipulates that the family allowances paid to workers by the National Security Fund and the Treasury are to be increased to CFA F 4500.
This means an increase from CFA F 2,800 per child per month to CFA F4,500 francs per child per month. Before 2016, the decree of 2 August 1985 set the family allowance at CFA F 1,800 per dependent child per month.
This decision taken by the Head of State is one of the accompanying measures aiming at mitigating the effects of rising prices of fuel. In addition to this increase in family allowances, the Head of State issued another decree increasing the salaries of civil servants and government employees by 5%.
