The Bar Council, led by President Mbah Eric Mbah, released a statement on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, expressing their profound dissatisfaction and condemnation of the incident. The video, which went viral on social media on Saturday, March 1st, 2025, depicts police officers engaging in violent, degrading, and inhumane acts against a lawyer and other individuals.
“In the morning of Saturday, March 1st, 2025, videos circulated virally on social media showing police officers committing acts of violence and other degrading and inhumane acts against a lawyer and other persons,” the statement read.
Adding fuel to the fire, the Bar Council revealed that another lawyer had been detained by law enforcement officers after denouncing violations of his clients’ rights. He was reportedly coerced into retracting his statements before being released.
