On April 2, 2026, a significant milestone for public health in Cameroon was reached at the Centre Pasteur headquarters in Yaounde.
Dr. Blaise Moussa, Director General of CAMWATER, and Dr. Mirdad Kazanji, Director General of Centre Pasteur, signed a renewed framework agreement designed to overhaul the national drinking water quality assurance system.
This partnership transitions from a formal collaboration to a highly operational strategy, prioritizing rigorous quality control and reinforced institutional commitments to ensure the safety of water distributed across the country.
For CAMWATER, this agreement is a direct response to the growing necessity for consumer transparency and food security. Dr. Blaise Moussa underscored that customer satisfaction is inevitably linked to the delivery of safe water, a requirement he views as a pillar of national health.
By leveraging this partnership, CAMWATER aims to maintain its record of preventing waterborne health crises, actively reassuring the Cameroonian public that the water flowing into their homes meets the highest safety benchmarks.
The Pasteur Center of Cameroon plays a pivotal role in this system as an independent, internationally recognized scientific authority. Holding the ISO 17025 accreditation, the Center provides a high level of technical rigor in its evaluations.
Dr. Mirdad Kazanji highlighted the fact that comprehensive microbiological testing will be conducted by their laboratories to detect pathogens, alongside physico-chemical analyses to identify heavy metals and other contaminants, ensuring that the water quality assessments remain transparent and credible.
This initiative is not limited to the capital but extends its reach nationwide, covering various water sources throughout Cameroon to ensure compliance with drinking water standards.
By aligning national practices with international scientific norms, the collaboration between CAMWATER and the Pasteur Center illustrates a unified front in protecting citizen health.
Ultimately, this renewed commitment seeks to transform access to safe drinking water into a sustainable and reliable pillar of well-being for all Cameroonians.
