The day started with a mini cross country race to mark the official launching of Col. Sunday Nfor Lawrence Foundation at the Nkambe grandstand.
During the official launching over 1500 pupils and students received basic school material worth over FCFA 2 million. To extend the hand of fellowship to all the five municipalities, a huge consignment of the didactic materials were handed to the representatives of Ako, Ndu, Nkambe, Nwa and Misaje councils to share to the needy.
Addressing beneficiaries, the representative of Late Colonel Sunday’s family said the foundation seeks to support and encourage sustainable development in Donga Mantung Division as well as continue with the philanthropic gesture of their father.
On the other hand, the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Mantung thanked the family for supporting youths who are the light of society ” we are here to celebrate this gift from this family in honour of the efforts of late Col. Sunday Nfor Lawrence. We started with the cross country which the youths manifested strength and energy.
It is this strength and energy that enabled Colonel Sunday Nfor Lawrence to become a military officer. We are here to hand this donation on behalf of the Foundation so that education may continue to be the bed rock of Donga Mantung”. Dr. Nkwenti Simon emphasized that education should continue to be that cherished item that makes the people of Donga Mantung great.
He reiterated that those who preach against education are the enemies of mankind. He congratulated the foundation for building a holistic society.
At the end of handing over of packages, over 1500 pupils and students who attended the launching ceremony went home with exercise books and pens while 60 others received school bags and books.
