The head of Elections Cameroon Elecam in the Jakiri division was killed by armed men on 18 January 2023.

This attack comes just days after one of the separatist leaders called on his supporters to prevent the holding of senatorial elections in these two regions. Ayaba Cho of the Ambazonia Defense Force threatened reprisals against anyone who participated in the elections. According to the news network Cameroon News Agency, Yufola Gilbert  was shot dead in the evening near his home.

Elections called by Cameroon on March 12 is banned. All enablers of genocide and colonialism who attempt to legitimise alien rule will be arrested. Ambazonia shall never again tolerate the legitimation of murderers and impostors in our land. Hail the land of the Brave

Earlier in the week, a shopkeeper in the town of Bamenda was shot dead by gunmen. According to witnesses, the man tried to resist what appeared to be a kidnapping. The ongoing crisis seems to take a new turn with the upcoming elections.
