A Member of Parliament for the Social Democratic Front (SDF) in the Boyo Division was abducted on Sunday, February 5. The abduction was confirmed by Adeline Djomgang, the Secretary General of the SDF.
She was abducted on the Bambui road in the Mezam department by armed men. SDF officials accuse separatist fighters of being the perpetrators of the kidnapping. The latter are reportedly demanding a ransom of 36 million CFA francs for his release, according to Equinoxe television.
However, the National Assembly has not communicated on this kidnapping. Nor has the government. According to some sources, the MP was taken to the vicinity of Bafut.
The separatists often use ransom payments to sustain their war effort. Moreover, this is not the first time that a parliamentarian has been kidnapped in this way. On 30 April 2022, Senator Regina Mundu was kidnapped in Bamenda, the major city in the North West region.
