The Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba received on Monday October 19, 2026, a delegation from Huawei, led by Mrs. Olylia Wang Lei, CEO of Huawei Cameroon.
The high-level meeting focused on exploring innovative ways to leverage digital technologies to modernize Cameroon’s electricity sector and accelerate the nation’s broader energy transition.
During the audience, the Huawei delegation detailed the activities of its specialized division dedicated to power sector digitalization. The company presented a comprehensive approach centered on diagnosing the specific operational needs of energy providers and tailoring high-tech solutions to enhance efficiency across power generation, transmission, and distribution networks.

A significant portion of the presentation was devoted to sharing international best practices, with a strong emphasis on China’s rapid advancements in renewable energy development, grid integration infrastructure, and evolving electricity consumption patterns. Furthermore, the German model was highlighted to illustrate the complex technical and regulatory transformations required to successfully navigate a large-scale energy transition.
Addressing the critical issue of energy poverty, Huawei introduced decentralized solar power solutions designed to empower end-users to generate a portion of their own electricity. These localized, consumer-centric models were proposed as viable, scalable pathways to expand energy access and improve electricity reliability in underserved communities.
Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba expressed his appreciation for the delegation’s comprehensive presentation, noting that Huawei’s technological proposals closely align with Cameroon’s national energy policy orientations and developmental goals.
The constructive exchange opened promising avenues for future cooperation between the Cameroonian government and the tech giant. The innovative solutions and international insights shared during the meeting will feed into ongoing national reflections on how digital technologies can optimize power system performance and elevate the quality of service for electricity users nationwide.
