The leading team from the north of the country beat Fovu of Baham 2-0 at the Stade de la Réunification on Sunday 1 October.
Coton Sport de Garoua avoided the trap of the sacred cave of Baham. The reigning Cameroon champions took an early lead after Wassou converted a penalty in the 2nd minute, before Bassane doubled their advantage at the 35th minute. In the second half, Fovu Club de Baham tried to come back but failed to find the net.
Coach Emmanuel Ndoumbe Bosso admitted after the match that his team had lacked preparation, not having had enough time to rebuild a competitive squad after winning the Cameroon Cup final a week ago.
For Coton Sport, it was their first trophy under new coach Daniel Bréard, who arrived some months ago. The French coach said he was “doubly happy and proud” to have won the trophy. President Fernand Sadou, for his part, said the trophy was a “logical follow-up” to the league title. The team from the banks of the Benue thus succeeded Bamboutos Fc, winners of the previous edition.
