On October 26, the Ministry of External Relations of Cameroon – MINREX and the United Nations system in Cameroon jointly commemorated the 81st anniversary of United Nations Day.
The ceremony highlighted decades of international cooperation while reaffirming a shared dedication to addressing global challenges, upholding human rights, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs. Through this high-level engagement, both parties underscored the vital necessity of collective action in an increasingly interconnected world.
This year’s commemoration took place under the theme: “At 81, the UN renews its commitment to multilateralism for people and the planet on the road to COP31, while advancing peace, healing and rebuilding.” The theme reflects an urgent imperative to align international peacebuilding initiatives with decisive climate action.
As the global community prepares for the upcoming COP31 climate conference, the focus remains firmly anchored on creating sustainable pathways that protect vulnerable populations and support post-conflict recovery.

During the official proceedings, Dr. Issa Sanogo, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cameroon, delivered the official message of the UN Secretary-General. The message emphasized that United Nations Day celebrates fundamental human solidarity rather than a mere institution, reminding attendees that humanity’s future rests on global cooperation.
The address reinforced the core mandate of the Organization: to foster enduring peace, protect fundamental human rights, and ensure equitable economic and social progress across all member states.
The United Nations in Cameroon extended formal appreciation to the Government of Cameroon, institutional partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, youth groups, and the media for their continued collaboration.
Achieving meaningful progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals requires dynamic local and national partnerships. The ongoing cooperation between Cameroonian institutions and UN agencies demonstrates how local action directly advances broad global commitments.
Looking toward the future, the ongoing #UN80 and global modernization initiatives aim to build a more effective, responsive, and future-ready United Nations.
By renewing its foundational pledge to leave no one behind, the UN system continues to strengthen its operations alongside national governments like Cameroon.
Together, these joint efforts strive to accelerate progress on climate resilience, conflict resolution, and inclusive development for people and the planet.
