The corpse of Frida Joko, second deputy mayor of Bamenda II, was found this morning, October 28.

She was found in the morning of Monday, October 28 at a crossroads in the city, covered in blood. According to press reports, she had been kidnapped and then murdered by Ambazonian separatists fighters.

The tragedy occurred after Frida Joko attended a public screening of a documentary about President Paul Biya, a major event in the region. According to witnesses, separatists fighter, who oppose any representation of the Cameroonian State in this troubled region, abducted Frida Joko at the end of the event. The local authorities were shocked and immediately condemned the murder. There had been several previous cases.

On September 20 2024, for example, local authorities announced that a home-made bomb had killed one person in a market in Bamenda, in the North West region. Six others, including an infant, were injured. Four weeks ago, Roland Ewana, Divisional officer of Idabata in the South West region, was kidnapped.

Five years after the Major National Dialogue, years after the announcement of the plan to rebuild Cameroon’s troubled regions, the English-speaking regions of Cameroon have not regained their peace.
