The Confederation of African Football – CAF has spoken regarding certain behaviors displayed during the ongoing African Cup of Nations matches specifically those that opposed Cameroon v Morocco on January 9, as well as Algeria v Nigeria on January 10, 2026

In a press release that was made public on Monday January 12, the Continental ruling body condemned the unacceptable behaviour of players as well as officials during the ongoing continental jamboree.

“CAF condemns unacceptable behaviour of players and officials during TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 and opens investigation into match incidents during QF: Cameroon v Morocco, as well as Algeria v Nigeria.

CAF has referred the matters to the Disciplinary Board for investigation and has called for appropriate action to be taken if the identified persons were to be found guilty of any wrongdoing.”

In the press release, it was equally noted that some match reports and video footages that were potentially illegal behavior that violated sports ethics and regulations were being collected and handed over to the disciplinary department for scrutiny.

In addition, “CAF is also reviewing footage of an incident involving members of the media who allegedly misbehaved in the mixed zone area.” Read the release.

The release was equally an opportunity for CAF to sound a loud warning to anyone targeting the refereeing  team of match organizers.

“ CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organizers. Appropriate actions will be sought against anyone whose behaviour is not consistent with professional conduct at CAF events.”

It is worth mentioning that this press release comes after the occurrence of certain incidents during and after the quarter-finals encounters that was filled with mixed emotions.
